How To Clean Your Bike Like A Pro Mechanic
Keeping your bike clean isn’t just about looks. A clean bike rides faster, runs quieter, and lasts longer. With the right process and tools, you can achieve pro-level results at home.
1. Rinse Away Loose Dirt
Start with a gentle rinse using a low-pressure hose or bucket. This removes surface dirt before you begin scrubbing. Avoid high-pressure sprays—they can force water into bearings and suspension pivots.
2. Wash the Frame and Components
Use: Finish Line® Super Bike Wash™
-
Why: Its biodegradable formula cuts through grime without harming finishes or seals.
-
How: Spray it liberally on the frame, fork, bars, and wheels. Let it sit for a minute, then wipe or brush away dirt. Rinse clean.
3. Decontaminate the Drivetrain
Your drivetrain does the hard work—it deserves attention.
Use: Finish Line® Speed Degreaser™
-
Why: Dissolves grease fast and evaporates residue-free.
-
How: Spray directly on the chain, cassette, and derailleur pulleys, then scrub with a brush or Finish Line® Grunge Brush™.
Use: Finish Line® Gear Floss™
-
Why: Perfect for tight spaces between cassette cogs and derailleur pulleys.
-
How: Thread it through and move back and forth to dislodge grime.
4. Lubricate the Drivetrain
Once dry, apply the appropriate lubricant for your conditions:
-
Finish Line® Dry Lubricant for dry climates.
-
Finish Line® Wet Lubricant for wet environments.
Apply a small drop to each chain link, then wipe away the excess.
5. Polish and Protect
Use: Finish Line® Showroom Polish & Protectant™
-
Why: Restores shine and leaves a protective layer against UV damage and dust.
-
How: Spray on a microfiber cloth, apply evenly, and buff to a clean finish.
